What SIA stands for
SIA is short for the Security Industry Authority. It is the UK government body that regulates the private security industry. If you work in security in the UK, in most roles, you need an SIA licence, by law.
What an officer has to do to get one
Getting a licence is not a form and a fee. An officer has to pass a recognised training course, prove they are over 18, and pass a proper background check that includes a criminal record check. The licence is valid for three years, then they have to renew it.
